The layout is built from physical key codes (KeyboardEvent.code), not characters, so it stays accurate regardless of your OS keyboard layout or language settings. A compact "pressed key" bar above the board shows the live key label, code, and any active modifiers (Ctrl, Shift, Alt, Meta) the instant you press something, then reverts to a waiting state on release without shifting the layout below it.
